========================= Indoor Group
Our youngest athletes meet on a weekly basis on Friday Nights at Skerries Community Centre Hall. Learn the basics of running, balance, agility and co-ordination through various drills and games. Children can join the Club of the year they are turning 8 (based on our waiting list). Drop to the Community Centre for 7pm and collection time is 7.55pm sharp on Friday evenings. Indoor Group usually has 8 & 9 year olds. For training, we require all our athletes to
- Wear appropriate clothing (t-shirt, shorts/leggings/tracksuit, fleece/hoodie) and runners.
- Bring a bottle of water.
- Use the bathroom before leaving home so they can fully benefit from the limited time we have per session.
- Not to leave the Hall unaccompanied or without the consent of a coach.
Note: typically the current under 10s move out to Astro.
Note: Start dates for athletes in January are usually staggered e.g.:
– second week of January – Only children who attended training the previous year will return
– third week of Jan – All our new members will commence
========================= Academy Group
This group meets on a weekly basis on Friday Nights between 7 and 8pm, at Skerries Community Centre Astro pitch. Continue to improve running, balance, agility and co-ordination through various drills and build up to some slightly longer distance running. Astro Group usually has 10 & 11 year olds. They don’t specialise until they are u/13 (12 year olds) and then they choose either Sprint, Endurance or Fit 4 Youth. But Note: Currently there is a Trial group called “Cadets” that they move to.
========================= Cadets Group
This is generally for u/13 (12 year olds). Athletes will be coached with the core focus on getting fit, fast and strong for all competition types (e.g. Sprint and Endurance sessions).
Depending on the competition calendar, Cadet sessions will be Sprint or Endurance focused. Sessions are on Wednesdays (generally 6pm in Downside/Ardgillan depending on the time of year) and Friday Nights between 7 and 8pm at Skerries Community Centre Astro pitch. There is also the option of also doing the Sunday Endurance session in Ardgillan at 9.30am.
========================= Fit 4 Youth
The ethos of this group is keeping fit in a friendly, fun and non-competitive environment. We train on Friday nights from 7pm-8pm meeting in Kelly’s Bay and running around Skerries. Fit 4 Youth usually has 12 years upwards to age of 17.
Before joining, athletes should be able to run or jog 1000 meters without stopping.
Friday – 19:10 to 20:10 Kelly’s Bay Green
========================= Sprint Group
This group specialises in shorter distances up to 200m and relays. Sprint typically has 12 years upwards to age of 17.
Wednesday – 6 to 7 pm Mills Soccer Pitches or Downside Green
Friday – 7 to 8pm Community Centre Astro Pitch
========================= Endurance
This group specialises in distances over 400m (e.g. cross country). Endurance usually has 12 years upwards to age of 17. Training as follows,
Wednesday – 18:00 to 19:00 (Downside Green or Ardgillan depending on time of year)
Friday – 18:00 to 19:00 (Downside Green or Ardgillan depending on time of year)
Sunday – 09:30 to 10:30 Ardgillan Castle (meeting in upper car park).
Note: For new Endurance athletes, training is on Wednesday and Friday. The coaches will advise when the new athlete also does Sunday’s session.
