========================= Indoor Group
Our youngest athletes meet on a weekly basis on Friday Nights at Skerries Community Centre Hall. Learn the basics of running, balance, agility and co-ordination through various drills and games. Children can join the Club of the year they are turning 8 (based on our waiting list). Drop to the Community Centre for 7pm and collection time is 7.55pm sharp on Friday evenings. Indoor Group usually has 8 & 9 year olds. For training, we require all our athletes to
- Wear appropriate clothing (t-shirt, shorts/leggings/tracksuit, fleece/hoodie) and runners.
- Bring a bottle of water.
- Use the bathroom before leaving home so they can fully benefit from the limited time we have per session.
- Not to leave the Hall unaccompanied or without the consent of a coach.
Note: usually the current under 10s move out to Astro.
========================= Astro Group
This group meets on a weekly basis on Friday Nights between 7 and 8pm, at Skerries Community Centre Astro pitch. Continue to improve running, balance, agility and co-ordination through various drills and build up to some slightly longer distance running. Astro Group usually has 10 & 11 year olds. They don’t specialise until they are u/13 and then they choose either Sprint, Endurance or Fit 4 Youth:
========================= Fit 4 Youth
The ethos of this group is keeping fit in a friendly, fun and non-competitive environment. We train on Friday nights from 7pm-8pm meeting in Kelly’s Bay and running around Skerries. Fit 4 Youth usually has 12 years upwards to age of 17.
Before joining, athletes should be able to run or jog 1000 meters without stopping.
========================= Sprint Group
This group specialises in shorter distances up to 200m and relays. Sprint usually has 12 years upwards to age of 17.
Wednesday – 6.15 to 7.15 pm Community Centre
Saturday – 9.00 to 10.00am Community Centre pitch
========================= Endurance
This group specialises in distances over 400m (e.g. cross country). Endurance usually has 12 years upwards to age of 17. Training as follows,
Wednesday – 18:00 to 19:00 (Downside Green)
Friday – 18:00 to 19:00 (Downside Green)
Sunday – 09:30 to 10:30 Ardgillan Castle (meeting in upper car park).
Note: For new Endurance athletes, training is on Wednesday and Friday. The coaches will advise when the new athlete also does Sunday’s session.
