Last weekend a group of circa 40 young athletes together with their parents made their way to Morton Stadium in Santry for the 2014 Dublin Community Games athletics finals. These young boys and girls had already been successful at the Skerries trials in May and for many it was their first time to represent their town at Community Games and I have no doubt it certainly won’t be their last. The Gold medal winners will go forward to represent Skerries and Dublin at the National Community Games finals in Athlone in August. Saturday, saw the heats and semifinals in each event with many Skerries athletes qualifying for the finals on Sunday. Congratulations to every one who competed, the future of Skerries athletic talent is very bright indeed! Skerries was also awarded 2nd place for the Lord Mayors award for best overall area only a few points behind the winners Navan Road. This is the best performance by Skerries athletes in recent years.
