A day after we received confirmation of Ciara Durkans selection to the Irish Womens Senior team for the Europeans, we have just had confirmation that Isabel Carron has been selected to represent Ireland at the forthcoming Celtic International Cross Country on January 4th, well done Isabel. Isabel was selected on the basis of her 2nd place finish in the u16 race at the recent National Even Ages in Santry. Not a bad days work from Skerries AC athletes. The future is bright indeed!
The club would like to extend its congratulations to Ciara Durkan, who following her impressive 5th place finish at the National XC Championships has now been selected to the Irish Womens Senior team for the forthcoming European XC Championships in Serbia on December 8th. Well done on this fantastic achievement Ciara.
Santry Demesne was the setting for a great day of All Ireland XC Athletics and Skerries athletes were once again to the force.
Ciara Durkan finished a fantastic 5th place in the Senior womens race, taking some notable scalps and also making claims for a place in the national team for the forthcoming European Championships.
In the Juvenile even ages All Ireland Championships, Skerries A.C. again achieved some fabulous results. At U/12 level both Ruby Pereira and John Fanning competed with distinction for both Skerries A.C. but also as part of the Dublin team, Ruby finished 40th and John 74th.
Likewise in the U/14 age group, Sarah Whelan and Stephen O’Connor performed with credit for Skerries A.C. and their respective Dublin teams, Sarah finishing 63rd and Stephen 71st.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the day came in the girls U/16 race with the outstanding Isabel Carron finishing a brilliant 2nd in the race. Isabel was ably assisted by her teammates Rhona Pierce 18th, Sarah Byrne 45th, Eryn Devine 47th and Eibhlin McCarthy 79th which resulted in the girls bringing home team bronze. Isabel and Rhona were also scorers on the Dublin team which claimed Intercounty gold.
Finally, for the first time in decades, the club was represented by a girls U/18 team and these girls emerged with great credit with Aine McCarthy finishing 29th and also receiving a team gold with the Dublin team, Orla Bollard 45th, Laura Costello 59th and Ellen Tuck 67th.
This club is especially delighted to see these athletes representing Skerries A.C. through the Juvenile ranks to adult level. Well done to everyone who as always have competed to the best of their abilities
