IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM DUBLIN ATHLETIC BOARD

CAR PARKING:

There will be limited car parking available in the Morton Stadium – competitors and spectators please use gate number 1 (the gate closest to Santry).

Stewards and officials please use gate number 3 – the Clonliffe gate. Competitors are asked please not to use this particular side of the car park.

Fingal County Council who own Santry Demesne Park and are kind enough to allow us use of the park have specifically requested that competitors and spectators refrain from using the public car-park in the park itself. If this car-park is used it will become congested very quickly and will lead to problems with future events being held in the park. We appeal, therefore, to please respect the wishes of Fingal County Council and do not use this particular car-park.

There will also be car parking available in Gulliver’s Retail Park which is situated up at Homebase in Northwood which is approximately a ten minute walk to the cross country venue.

Competitors and spectators are reminded that there is no parking permitted along the Swords Road itself, along the Northwood Road, there is strictly no parking on any of the grass verges along Northwood. Please also note when parking in the Morton Stadium that the avenue cannot under any circumstances be used for parking. Competitors and spectators are also reminded that An Garda Siochana regularly enforce no parking along the Swords Road.

Competitors and clubs are requested to ensure that all litter is removed from the park post event. Your help and co-operation in doing this would be gratefully appreciated. Please bear in mind that if you do not bring home your rubbish it falls upon the people who are kind enough to give freely and willingly of their time to build the course and will be on site from 8 a.m. in the morning to tidy up your rubbish. Please, therefore, do the right thing!

Dublin Marathon 2016

Good luck to all our coaches doing the Dublin Marathon this morning. It takes months of long and lonely training to make it to the start line. You are an inspiration. Good luck we’re proud of you.

Dublin XC Championships (Even Ages) Results

Sunday was a historic day for all our athletes as they competed in the very first event ever to be held at the new National Cross Country Course in Abbottstown. It was a blustery day, although fortunately the rain held off.

First Medal of the day was won by Shauna Prior, a brilliant third in the U10 girls. We had two team wins. Firstly U14 Boys took Bronze. They were led by Josh (super run came 6th), followed by James, Lorcan, Hugh and Ben. Then the U16 girls took Silver. They were led by a very strong Lottie who took it out from the start and came 5th, followed by Anna, Lily and Kerrie.

Strong individual performances by Daphne, Oscar and Ella who didn’t have the support of a team, but didn’t let that stop them.

Great runs by Eibhlin and Mairead in the U18 girls, and Conor and Stephen in the U18 boys.

Orla Bollard ran her first senior womens race in the Autumn Open. It was  strong field led by Fionnuala McCormack. Orla came an impressive 31st with a time of 24.46

Full credit to all, with many stepping up an age to compete. As ever thanks to the parents who supported, and gave lifts.

Breathing Exercises – Astro Group

Attached please find the breathing exercise we would like the children to perform on a daily basis, with your encouragement and assistance. It is a very simple exercise which aims to help the children improve their breathing techniques and quicken their muscle recovery during effort. This will benefit the children in all their sporting activities not just athletics.

As you can appreciate, one hour a week is a very short time to try and incorporate all the techniques and exercises which will benefit your child’s athletic experience, so over time we will be handing out more home activites and would appreciate your assistance in encouraging the children to perform them. It might even be a time when all the family take time out to do the exercises together. We would also appreciate your feedback on the exercises and how your child manages with them.
Although aimed at the Astro group, these exercises would benefit all our young athletes (and families).

Dublin Juvenile XC League 1 -Ardgillan

A great start to the cross country season, with a record number of Skerries Athletes competing, 69 in total. All our athletes did the club proud especially those competing for the first time. As our home fixture, a lot of work goes into the layout of the course, and marshalling on the day. Thanks to all the parents and coaches for their support. Feedback very positive from visiting clubs. Results to follow.

Welcome Back

We are looking forward to welcoming all our athletes back to training this Friday. Sadly the days are beginning to get shorter and weather a little gloomier, however the good news is it’s the start of the cross country season. Time to dig out the long leggings, gloves and hats. The events page has been updated with  Upcoming Fixtures. Also attached is a document giving details of the distances for the different ages and events. XC Distances 2016

London Calling

Even though we are now on our Summer break, it’s great to see our athletes out and about enjoying athletic events. Here are some photos from Orla and Olive’s trip to the Anniversary Games in the Olympic Stadium London.
