Master Goats strike Gold and Silver at National 5k Road Championships

Our Coaches Keith, David and John represented Skerries AC today at the National 5k Road Championships in the Phoenix Park. The stage was set for a great race on a beautiful sunny but crisp morning.

David was first home for the club in a time of 17:03 and 4th in his age category. Keith was close behind with a time of 17:07 winning Gold in his age category and taking the National title. John brought the team home with a time of 18:47, 4th in his age category.

All three were competing in the over 35 team category. They took Silver closely behind Rathfarnham and ahead of many of the big clubs in Ireland.

Phenomenal achievement, well done to all.

Dublin Juvenile Track & Field League 2

Congratulations to our 18 athletes who braved the elements to compete in League 2 on Saturday – Haydn, Conor, James, Chloe, Bethan, Rebecca, Caoimhe, Lauren, Meabh, Mathilde, Emer, Isobel, Aoife, Harvey, Lily, Erica and Nathan. Great spirited performances put in by everyone despite the elements.

Thanks to Denise and Barbara for the photos (lots more on club’s Facebook page).

Many thanks to Michelle, Mark and Philip for acting as officials today which helped the event run very smoothly and efficiently. Well done to Cecil and his team.

Thanks also to Deirdre, Ide and Derek for looking after our athletes on the day and to all our coaches. Last but not least to all the parents and families for their support and encouragement from the stands…athletes really benefit from this and dig a little deeper over the home stretch.

Dublin Juvenile Track & Field League 1

Saturday saw the start of the Dublin Athletic Board Juvenile Leagues in Santry Stadium. We had 27 athletes competing across various track and field events. The sprint races were decided by heats, semi finals and finals and the middle distance races were decided on times. We had semi-finalists and finalists across all the age groups for the sprints and await official results regarding the middle distance races and field events.

Each and every athlete performed to the best of their abilities. From the photos it is obvious they all enjoyed the day and were there for each other. Kate, Laura, Rachel Grace and Caoimhe were competing for the Club for the first time and they didn’t let their nerves get the better of them. Congratulations to all our athletes on their great performances, they did themselves, their parents, their coaches and Skerries AC proud.

Thanks to Brenda and Michael for officiating on the day, Thanks also to John, Maeve, Seamus, Carole, Deirdre, Paul, Gareth and Diane for looking after our athletes and to all our coaches for their time each week coaching our athletes. Last but not least the parents whose support and encouragement from the stands means a whole lot to our budding athletes. Unfortunately poor Aoibheann couldn’t compete today as she was ill this morning. Get well soon.

Well done everyone, looking forward to seeing you all again on 27th at League 2.

National Juvenile Indoor Championships

Congratulations to Harvey and Cressida on their incredible performances at Nationals over the weekend.

Cressida was running in the U17 60m and came third in her heat just missing out on the final by .002. The second place qualifier had a time of 8.112 and Cressida’s time was 8.114. Very slim margins that hurt.

Harvey had a busy weekend competing on Saturday in the 60m sprints and Sunday in the 800m. He stormed out of the blocks and won is heat in a time of 7.95. Then onto finals, there was a false start in the lane beside him which made him more cautious coming out of his blocks but he powered down the track finishing in 4th place in a time of 7.94, which was an improvement in heat time.

Back to the track early Sunday morning for check in and warm up, where Harvey was in heat 2. He positioned himself , staying in the top 3 throughout the race finishing in 3rd in a time of 2.19.27 through to the final as an automatic qualifier. Time for food and chilling before the final at 5pm.

Nerves kicking in and off to line for final. Tactically aware of his rivals, he sat in 2nd in a very fast race but unfortunately ran out of steam for the last 200m, finishing in 8th.

Phenomenal achievement for both our athletes to be counted amongst the best in Ireland. Coaches and club are very proud of you both.

World Masters Half Marathon ToruΕ„ 2019

On Saturday three of our coaches, Keith, Kevin and David represented Ireland in the world Masters Half Marathon in ToruΕ„ in Poland. Having packed thermals it turned out Poland wasn’t so cold, and the morning of the race was quite hot and heavy. Also turned out the supposedly flat course was very hilly. That being said the boys (and yes they’ve had their metabolic ages taken and we can officially call them boys), took it in they’re stride.

Keith led the Irish team home with a PB of 1:17:29. He was shortly followed by Kevin (1:18:33) and David (1:19:29 another PB).

So proud of you all. You are an inspiration to our young athletes starting out on their athletic careers. Thanks also to everyone who sent messages of goodwill and support.

Now to recovery…. yes they do practise what they preach. Sea bath, great for those sore, tired muscles. Has to be 10 minutes though πŸ₯ΆπŸ₯ΆπŸ₯Ά.

Congratulations to Lottie and John on representing their respective schools at the All Ireland Schools Cross Country on Saturday. in Clongowes Wood College. Fantastic achievement for them to have qualified for the event.

Congratulations to both of you.
