Dublin Juvenile XC Championships (Even Ages)

Abbotstown Sunday 16th October 2016

Good luck to all our athletes competing on Sunday. It is important to be at the race at least 90mins before your start time to allow time to familiarise yourself with the course and warm up. Bring plenty of warm dry gear.

Dublin Juvenile XC League 2 -Phoenix Park

The sun shone on our athletes in the Phoenix Park. Again a great turnout, especially in the under 9 & 10 groups. Great performances in all age groups. Thanks to parents and coaches for your assistance. Well done to our all out talented athletes. Results to follow.

Dublin Juvenile XC League 1 -Ardgillan

A great start to the cross country season, with a record number of Skerries Athletes competing, 69 in total. All our athletes did the club proud especially those competing for the first time. As our home fixture, a lot of work goes into the layout of the course, and marshalling on the day. Thanks to all the parents and coaches for their support. Feedback very positive from visiting clubs. Results to follow.

Welcome Back

We are looking forward to welcoming all our athletes back to training this Friday. Sadly the days are beginning to get shorter and weather a little gloomier, however the good news is it’s the start of the cross country season. Time to dig out the long leggings, gloves and hats. The events page has been updated with  Upcoming Fixtures. Also attached is a document giving details of the distances for the different ages and events. XC Distances 2016

Eibhlin takes Silver in Portland

Congratulations to Eibhlin who is away in Portland at the moment, but still training hard and competing. Eibhlin took women’s silver, 5th finisher, with a pb of 20:26 in Hillsboro 5k  4th July Catwalk roadrace.
Eibhlin’s Grandpa took veterans in 29:20. Obviously running is in the genes. Congratulations to both!

A Mediterranean Diet

While holidaying in places like Italy, Spain and France, dishes such as pasta and pizza would be a popular choice yet during my time in Italy recently, I quickly discovered the Mediterranean type diet has so much more to offer. There are so much more healthier foods that are extremely fresh and wholesome.

The Italians love:
1.Grains such as quinoa (which is seen as a superfood now), faro, polenta, rice and cechi which is chickpea flour (nicer than it sounds).

2. Fresh fruit and vegetables: The fruit and vegetables in Italy generally tend to be freshly grown and then sold straight away before any harmful chemical sprays and toxins are added. The fruit and vegetables are bursting with flavour!!

3. Fresh fish: the fish here literally look as if they are still alive..just not moving. The eyes, scales and tails are still on and they are not processed in any way. They taste a lot fresher!

So next time you are in one of these countries, explore the different foods rather than sticking to the regular pasta and pizza!
